WORLD PREMIERE – Beyond the Border: Latino Representation in Hollywood
French in Motion is honored to invite you to the WORLD PREMIERE of Beyond the Border: Latino Representation in Hollywood at the 26th Beverly Hills Film Festival.
For nearly a century, Hollywood has often confined Latinos to narrow, stereotypical roles—bandits, exotic dancers, or faceless foreigners—sometimes even casting white actors in brownface. But the Latino community refused to be silenced. Pioneers like Rita Moreno and Edward James Olmos, inspired by the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s, fought for authentic representation on screen.
Today, visionary filmmakers such as Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón, alongside stars like Pedro Pascal and America Ferrera, are reshaping the narrative. Through powerful storytelling, they bring Latino heritage to global audiences.
Produced and written by Clara Kuperberg & Julia Kuperberg, Beyond the Border explores this journey—from the black-and-white era to modern cinema—using rare archives, iconic film clips, and candid interviews with trailblazers such as John Leguizamo, Jimmy Smits, José Zuniga, Esai Morales, and Edward James Olmos. This documentary reveals how representation transforms our collective imagination.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Esai Morales, Carla Hool, and Daniel Villarreal.
